Livestreaming the Planting of a Tree
The Corona pandemic has thrown the original travel plans of the Erasmus+ project „ERA+: Integrated Learning Challenges“ into disarray. Each of the six countries of the partner schools involved in the project have different travel regulations, so that the planned trip to Bulgaria could be carried out with the other five partner schools, but unfortunately without any German participation on site. Since the current decree does not allow for trips abroad, we had to make do in a digital way in order to work together with the partner schools even over a distance of 1700km between Giessen and Sofia.
Besides creating presentations and videos to share online, we also had to get creative to share what were actually analogue activities. One example is the tree planting event on 6 October. In the presence of the headmaster Mr Tross, Mr Guckes and his year 13 advanced Biology class planted a fig tree near the main entrance of the school and everything was shown via livestream so that the project participants in Bulgaria could watch at the same time – a first for the Herderschule. Shortly before, a tree had also been planted for the Herderschule in the school grounds of the 88th Dimiter Popnikolov Secondary School in Sofia. Thus, an analogue memory of the project remains. A project which had to be organized quite differently than originally planned, but which still implements the basic idea of transnational European cooperation.
